Easter is fast approaching

Easter is fast approaching with Good Friday falling on 18 April and Easter Monday on 21 April. In many parts of the country Saturday 19 April has also been declared a full public holiday.

Employees covered by the  General Retail Industry Award 2010 will, accordingly, be entitled to receive the applicable public holiday penalty rates (generally time and a half) for all work performed on the above days.

We'd like to remind retail employers that the Award allows you and your non-casual employees to agree to 'substitute' another day for the public holiday or to add a days' leave to an employees' leave balance. This is an effective way to reduce the very high costs associated with opening and staffing stores over the Easter break.
